Laryngeal mask: Under-exploited potential
2024, Praticien en Anesthesie ReanimationVoice and Swallowing Disorders After Thyroid Surgery
2022, Journal of VoiceCitation Excerpt :In a study of Mencke et al,14 the incidence of vocal cord dysfunction after endotracheal intubation, caused by bilateral thickening of the vocal folds, reached 27%. The incidence of dysphagia on the first postoperative day after general anesthesia varies from 10 to 43%.13,15 Regarding the different evaluation methods, previous studies have given rather conflicting results about the role and duration of laryngeal nerve damage in post-thyroidectomy voice and swallowing changes.

2017, Journal of Clinical AnesthesiaCitation Excerpt :For dysphagia, the incidence in the LMA Classic group was higher (total, n = 475; LMA Classic, n = 53) compared with the TT group (TT, n = 39). Trials [20-23,29,30] found no lower incidence of dysphonia in participants ventilated with LMA Classic (total, n = 785; LMA Classic, n = 108 vs TT, n = 117). Blood staining on the device was registered in 2 trials [13,18] without significant differences.
