Abstract

A case of pulmonary alveolar proteinosis complicated by suppurative pneumonia due to Nocardia brasiliensis is reported. The nocardiosis was successfully treated.

The lesions due to pulmonary alveolar proteinosis have disappeared, as judged by radiographic study, during the course of two years.

The pulmonary status of the patient demonstrates a restrictive disability, perhaps secondary to scarification and fibrosis following the resorption of the pulmonary alveolar protein complex.

We believe that patients with pulmonary alveolar proteinosis may be susceptible to secondary infections caused by nocardia.
